In Memoriam

“In Memoriam” was the first piece in the artist’s crow series. When coming across a dead crow, the artist was moved not only by the beauty of the bird, but by the offerings others had left her. People had arranged a circle of sticks around the crow’s body and left flowers, expressing their consideration. Deciding to honor the crow in their own way, the artist documented the decay process through photos twice a week for several months. These photos were used as inspiration and reference material for the painting. This piece captures the process of decay and enshrines the crow permanently in a piece of art, honoring her spirit.
