Impermanence
“Impermanence” explores the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-Sabi and finds beauty in imperfection and decay. These up-close photos of textures were taken across Kyoto during day-to-day activities on a 4-week study abroad trip. Many were taken during solo exploratory walks with a focus on mindfulness and close observation. The three large photos were physically manipulated with sumi ink, emphasizing their imperfection and physical deterioration, but also enhancing their beauty. This piece celebrates the overlooked and encourages viewers to slow down and appreciate the little things all around them. This project was on display in the Negentropy exhibition at the Kyoto University of the Arts.
